Bank Holiday Pop-Up Forest Garden Exhibition in Bury

The Bury New Road project resident artist, Louise Garman, who has exhibited all over Europe and Britain, is to hold a pop-up exhibition, titled Human Nature, within the Barn and Forest Garden at Philips Park in Whitefield over the bank holiday weekend 24^th and 25^th August.

Louise, who graduated from Chelsea School of Art, studied at the Royal Academy and Slade, and is a director of neo:artists in Bolton, will be exhibiting artworks, including silkscreens, drawings and sketches, both inside the Barn and on an outdoor forest trail that will also see large fabric hangings, installations and surprises materialising amongst the trees.

“I have created a series of work based on nature and man’s mark on the planet, using watercolours on a huge scale” Louise explains “The multi-media works are influenced by walks close to my home in Prestwich…in Drinkwater Park, Prestwich Clough, Heaton Park, and, of course, Philips Park, where the industrial past meets the green environment. My work is an emotional response…”

The Bury New Road project has partnered with Incredible Edible Prestwich and District for the unique event, and thanks to an award from The National Lottery Community Fund and the Parklife Community Fund, Louise has held a dozen community workshops leading up to the exhibition, ranging from Colours and Feelings, to Chinese Painting, all with an eco theme.

Groups she has worked with include the Lancashire Wildlife Trust/Pennine Care’s Nature and Wellbeing group, Jewish Action for Mental Health, Home Schoolers and Co-workers groups, the Alevai Women’s Group, volunteers at Incredible Edible and two open workshops. The artworks from these sessions will also be displayed at the exhibition.

“We’re very much looking forward to hosting the exhibition at Philips Park this summer, and to showcasing the work that Incredible Edible does here which includes community garden growing of vegetables, herbs and wildflowers” says Mark Lockwood, from Incredible Edible Prestwich and District “I hope that the weather will be great and lots of people will be coming along.”
