Last week, Alevai, the short film to accompany the North Manchester Yiddish Dictionary, was premiered at the Manchester Jewish Museum, and now it’s to be premiered online this Saturday 26th July 9pm on the Bury New Road YouTube channel, which is embedded below…
Earlier this year, actor and journalist, Nigel Pivaro, worked with the Alevai Jewish Women’s Group to create a unique North Manchester Yiddish Dictionary and an accompanying short film, directed by Salford born film maker Rafe Conn.
The film was made as part of the Bury New Road project, which seeks to point out all the amazing people, places and events linked with the Road. Of the film, Gemma Meek, Programmes Manager at the Manchester Jewish Museum, says “It is a warm, charming and often comedic insight into the ways these women use Yiddish, and brings to life the emotions and senses behind the terms. The film feels like you’re meeting these women and getting to know them as they invite you into their homes and lives…A real celebration of the language and some of the people that keep it alive and evolving!”
Mazeltov from a Goyim. Looking forward to it. Will there be subtitles?
